Activities and places to see around The Old Schoolhouse

The schoolhouse is 35 minutes from Adelaide and 5 minutes to Hahndorf and 2 minutes to at least 2 wineries with many more within 30 minute drive, and 45 minutes to McLaren Vale. There's so much to do in the beautiful Adelaide Hills - explore Hahndorf, wineries, cafes, pubs, gin & whisky distilleries, Amy Gillet bike track and many historic towns to explore.

Food Scene

Stanley Bridge Tavern

The Stanley Bridge is a great place to have a quiet drink in the front bar or a lovely meal in the dining room or garden.

Fourth Hill Providore

Outstanding food - to enjoy either in cold weather or out in the gorgeous garden when the sun is shining. People come from near and far so booking is essential!

Balhannah Hotel

A quick walk across the road for a drink or a good pub meal in the dining room or in the alfresco area. Highly recommend!

Uraidla Hotel

Great pub food and lovely beer garden.

Oakbank Hotel

Always great food but notably Wednesday night are $10 off steaks!

Bridgewater Inn

Another wonderful waterhole and pub food with a beer garden and Thursday night is amazing value Steak night.

Route 9 Distillery

Amazing award winning gin a quick walk from the school. Lovely nibbles to accompany your tipple.

Ambleside distillers

Built on family acreage in Hahndorf, Ableside was built from the garden up, and focus on locally sourced and homegrown ingRedients.

WINERIES

Shaw + Smith

The closest of wineries to the school house accommodation! You could even take a walk as its only 2kms

Melba's Chocolates

Adelaide locals come from near and far to visit this chocolate maker. Take time to visit and have a taste of what Melbas has to offer!

 

WALKS

Balhannah Dog Park

If you want a quick stroll to get back to nature this is a lovely walk path that follows the mighty Onkaparinga River! Beautiful very old Oak trees and lots of quiet contemplation if you sit down near the bank of the river.

 

Adelaide Hills is full of walking tracks and hikes.

BIKE RIDES

Amy Gillett Bikeway, Oakbank SA 5243, Australia

Grab one of the two bikes available and go for a ride! Up to 35km of track.

PLACES OF INTEREST

Hans Heysen - The Cedars

Take a tour with one of the volunteer guides. Well worth the visit to see the home and work of Hans and his daughter Nora.

Hahndorf Village

A well known historic town full of cafes, antique shops, gift shops and general tourist place of interest.

Hahndorf Lavender Estate

Take a visit to this beautiful farm and find out so much about Lavender!

Berenberg Farm

A well known local producer of a huge range of jams, sauces, picked and honey. Pick your own strawberries when in season or just have a look at their incredible range
